With the panic of moving to a new country decreased a little more in my third week, I immediatelly threw myself into the bookstore. Of course, since I was in Germany, it was quite difficult for me to find a book in Turkish. Thus, I added the ones that interested me among English books to my shopping cart…Let me tell you about my bookstore visits: You enter the bookstore, glance at the discount section, then head straight to the sci-fi and fantasy section, scanning every shelf, taking pictures of the ones that catch your eye, and finally leaving the bookstore with a heavy heart, thinking you won’t have time to read all of them. It was during one of these visits that I came across The Witch’s Heart. What attracted me to the book was that the edges of the cover resembled those of “Circe”, which has the same edge on its cover. Thus, I guessed that this book might have a mythological theme as well. When I read the back cover, I realized I was right, and I couldn’t resist picking it up.

İşte bu süreçte Cadının Yüreği ile karşılaştım. Kitabın beni çeken kısmı kenar kısmının “Ben Kirke” adlı kitabın kenarına benzer olmasıydı. “Achilleus’un Şarkısı” da aynı şekilde karşıma çıktığından bu kitabın da mitolojik bir temaya sahip olabileceğini tahmin ettim ve arkasını okuduğumda da yanılmadığımı anladım. Dayanamadım aldım.

Everyone (two people actually but who is counting, right?) kept asking if I wasn’t getting tired of reading series books, so to surprise both them and myself, I decided not to get a series book this time and picked up a standalone novel instead. You might have heard of this book, as it’s been on the bestsellers list for a while and is still displayed in the entrance of every bookstore. I looked at the back cover, thought it seemed like a cute book, and there’s a library involved too. Maybe it’s going to turn into a Breakfast Club kind of story, I thought, so I decided to give it a go. While one of my guesses was right, I was wrong about the second one. ⭐️🌌

Bu kitabı duymuş olmanız muhtemel, çünkü kendisi çoksatanlar listesinde bulunmaya devam etmekle birlikte her kitapçının girişinde yer alıyor. Ben de arkasına baktım dedim sevimli bir kitaba benziyor, kütüphane falan da var belki Breakfast Club gibi bir hikayeye dönüşüyordur en iyisi okuyayım. Biri doğru olsa da ikinci yazdığımda yanılmışım.🌙📚

Speaking of laughter and fun, I have to admit that while reading the book I’m about to talk about, my heart was heavy. You may have already heard the English title of the book, or even watched the movie: Where the Crawdads Sing. Although the movie didn’t even cover a quarter of the book, let’s skip the small talk and jump into the review..🌾🪵

Bitmek bilmeyen bir Ocak ayından sonra “sonunda” diyerek kendimizi attığımız bir Şubat ayından herkese merhaba! Dilerim bu ay herkes için keyifli, bol okumalı, bol gülmeli geçer. Gülmek eğlenmek dedik ama birazdan size anlatacağım kitabı okurken içimin burkulduğunu söylesem yanlış olmaz. Siz de belki daha önce kitabın ingilizce adını duymuş, hatta filmini izlemiş olabilirsiniz: “Where The Crawdads Sing”. Her ne kadar film kitabın çeyreğini dahi anlatamamış olsa da lafı uzatmadan incelemeye geçelim...🚣🏼‍♀️

Legend, the first review of the new year, is actually a book I’ve read before and really enjoyed. The author, Stephanie Garber, created side stories inspired by this series, and as these stories became more popular, I decided to re-read the series from the beginning. It’s quite an engaging and entertaining series, and I felt the same excitement as when I first read it. Let me share my thoughts with you… 📎🐉🧑‍🎄

Magical realism at its finest. That’s how I’d start summing up Kafka on the Shore. This was my first foray into Murakami’s world, and honestly, I had no idea what to expect. The internet was buzzing with praise, yet even so, I was unprepared for what lay ahead. There were countless moments I asked myself, “What on earth am I reading?” But paradoxically, that confusion kept me hooked—pulling me from one chapter to the next and, before I knew it, deep into Murakami’s peculiar universe.

Büyülü gerçekçiliğin zirvesi. Sahilde Kafka için aklıma gelen ilk tanım bu. Murakami’nin dünyasına ilk kez bu kitapla adım attım ve açıkası ne beklemem gerektiğine dair en ufak bir fikrim yoktu. Elbette bu durum beni okumaktan geri bırakan bir şey değildi; zira çok severek okuduğum bir serinin bitmesiyle kendimi yeni bir maceraya atmak istedim. O zamanlar, bu maceranın Taht Oyunları, Uyumsuz, Açlık Oyunları ve Ölümsüz Oyuncaklar gibi çok severek okuduğum serilere benzer olacağını henüz bilmiyordum…

I Who Have Never Known Men is a slim book with an unnamed protagonist that’s set in an unknown world. I was immediately captured by the premise of the book: 40 women kept in an underground bunker, not allowed to touch each other without hearing the sharp sound of the whip. And the protagonist is a teenage girl who hasn’t reached puberty, and is seen unlikely to get there.

I thought about picking a light read for a flight and taking it with me. I was excited at the idea of enjoying a few pleasant hours, but the result was a complete disaster. The book was so boring that the journey felt like it lasted a lifetime. Despite how terrible the book was, I kept reading just to avoid boredom and because I had already bought it. Turns out, finding a good book can sometimes be just as challenging as the journey itself. 💄🥂👭🏽

Uzun sürecek bir uçak yolculuğu için çerezlik bir kitap seçip yanıma almayı düşündüm. Keyifli birkaç saat geçireceğim hayaliyle heyecanlanmıştım, ama sonuç tam bir fiyasko oldu. Kitabın sıkıcılığı yüzünden yolculuk adeta bir ömür sürdü. Kitabın rezaletine rağmen sadece yolda sıkılmamak için ve daha önce aldığım için okumaya devam ettim. Anlaşılan bazen iyi bir kitap bulmak da bir yolculuk kadar zorlu olabiliyormuş.

Hi, I’m Öykü Emecan. After graduating from Istanbul Law School and recently completing my LLM at TU Dresden, I realized that while my career lives in the structure of data and technology, my soul thrives in extraordinary stories. I haven't put a book down since the moment I learned to read. I started this journey by saying "Life is boring anyway, why do my books have to be like that?" and I claim to be a master of science fiction and fantasy books. I am a reader and constant fan of many series from Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter, Percy Jackson to Dune, Hunger Games to Mortal Instruments. I enjoy reading fascinating magical mythological works, especially futuristic dystopias. Hi, I'm Elif Beste Gül. I graduated from Bristol University Faculty of Law. I went from reading books when I was little to not having time to sleep, to someone who couldn't read books for fun when I started university. I went back to reading books as soon as I graduated, but despite the Percy Jackson series that I loved reading when I was little, I haven't been able to get back into fantasy books lately. Now I'm more into books with lots of drama, that take me so high in happiness and manage to make me fall to the bottom of the earth in an instant, and have lots of sad elements. I can't give 5 stars to books that don't make me cry at least once while reading them. If you are also interested in emotional works, I hope you enjoy reading my reviews and recommendations. :)
